Meet Your Instructor: Wes

Picture of Wes Harris, owner of Philadelphia Voice Studio, and voice coach specializing in gender-affirming voice coaching and contemporary music singing lessons.

Hi, I’m Wes (he/they)- voice coach and music educator. I specialize in helping singers explore their voices with authenticity, curiosity, and joy.

I bring over a decade of experience in teaching, performing, and directing. I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Maryland. I’m a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

As a specialist in “modern band” (that’s music teacher speak for “rock band director”) and contemporary music education, I’ve taught in Pennsylvania public schools across all grade levels, from Kindergarten through high school. In my private coaching practice, I work with people of all ages.

My teaching philosophy emphasizes the playful exploration of personal style, grounded in functional vocal technique. I aim to create a safe, supportive environment where students feel free to experiment and approach each session with an open mind, and a willingness to make some wonderfully weird sounds.

I work especailly well with…

  • Queer and trans singers seeking affirming vocal coaching

  • Experienced singers looking to level up

  • Adult beginners who feel like they “missed the boat”

  • Young artists exploring style, storytelling, or stage presence

  • Teachers and educators looking to deepen their own voice use

I serve Philadelphia, the Lehigh Valley, and the surrounding areas, and I work with folks from all around using Zoom for virtual sessions. I’d love to work with you!
